CCpur, April 15 2022: Taking note of the prolonged neglect and backwardness in Tonglon area under Singhat (Singngat) assembly constituency, MLA Chinlunthang on Thursday carried out inspection of works being taken up under the PMGSY programmes. Work orders for the road construction works, which the MLA covered during Thursday's tour as well as few other similar projects were issued back in 2018-2020 while the said works started implementation since 2021 divided into two packages. The first package covers Singngat proper to Chahnou stretching over 10.18 km and passes through villages like Munpi, Simbuk, Buksau and S Muallian while the second extends from Chahnou and links villages like Tonglon T, Hengmual and four others extending to over 6.96 km. The inspection was carried out by the MLA acting on complaints lodged by 10 village chiefs and people settling in Tonglon area that the projects flouted work quality. Accompanied by 15 village chiefs and officials including PMGSY SO Kamlianthang SO PMGSY and Lab Assistant Immanuel, the MLA expressed disappointment that the boulder chips used in the road construction were of substandard soft rocks and consequently directed officials of the work agency to use hard rocks and main tain quality. He then inspected construction of water storage tanks under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) at Hengmol village and a similar project at Kapkhanthang village for he would bear the expense. Along the route, he came across GI pipes used for water supply from different sources not of the prescribed standards. At Tonglon village, students of Convention English School welcomed and presented him with Paite traditional shawls as the village chief Suanchinpau Guite lauded the MLA for carrying out inspection of works being implemented under the PMGSY. Chinlunthang stated Tonglon is one of the most neglected and backward areas. The MLA also recounted that he had earlier visited the area twice within his father. * This news is as published by respected news daily at Imphal, whose name is duly marked as 'Source'.
